Three Weddings and One Saturday in April

I have to say that Saturday 26th April 2015 was a busy day for a wedding for several venues around the North East of England!

How do I know this??? Well….. Kids Deserve the Best were asked to provide Wedding Day Childcare services for three events. Gathering our teams together, we had two lovely ladies going to Matfen Hall, another two lovely ladies going to Capheaton Hall and another three lovely ladies and I went off to Wynyard Hall.

Between the three fabulous venues and the nine lovely ladies we looked after 35 children with ages ranging from 9months up to 11years on Saturday!

So how do we do that?

Firstly we need to ascertain how many and what age of children will need to be cared for, this is so we can allocate the appropriate number of child carers. Then we make very good use of the Toy Library in Heaton (NAPI), the lovely ladies there are ever so helpful in choosing individual toys and activities for the age of children we are catering for. I love this facility, and I am so pleased to have been introduced to it.  This eliminates the need for us to buy and store toys which we may only need once in a while.  We also go to the local library to borrow a few story books for when quiet time is needed.

Kids Deserve the Best does have a few supplies of our own, such as bubble machines, puzzles, books, and an endless supply of colouring pages and pens. Oh and a mini DVD player with a variety of DVDs too.

Organising three events in different directions of the North East was a task and a half, I kept my fingers crossed that I had not missed anything, had enough toys and activities, and hoping everyone got to where they were supposed to be. I want to make sure everyone who chooses Kids Deserve the Best for any kind of service and support has the very best they can possibly have – no exceptions!

Our Wedding Childcare Service offers the provision of child carers to look after the children, keeping them occupied whilst the grown-ups have their wedding meal, listen to the speeches in addition to general socialising and time out. On some occasions we provide cover throughout the day and then on into the evening when the children would have usually gone to bed, enabling all family members and friends to enjoy the celebrations.

We provide games and activities – the people looking after the children work in childcare as their main day to day job, usually as a Nanny or in a nursery environment. All child carers who wish to work on behalf of Kids Deserve the Best have to go through our strict application process, which includes a face to face meeting, checking of history, training and where their best skills are. We also check for a recent DBS check and follow up on two or three recent references. Only when the boss (ME!) is completely happy, do we sent out to work on our behalf.

We can add an additional element to the day, for a small cost we can provide age appropriate craft activities where the children can make and take away their own special momento of the day.

No wedding is going to be the same, which is why our services are looked at on an individual basis.

I enjoyed my time at Wynyard Hall, I am usually the organiser not the child carer. Saturday gave me the opportunity to see how hard these ladies work in keeping a group of children occupied when there are so many other things going on. And also seeing how they manage to settle the children when they just want to be with their parents. Being there also helped me get an idea of what we could do to make things better, what are we missing?

My final note on this is to offer a special word of THANK YOU to the lovely ladies who provide help and support to Kids Deserve the Best with any of the services we provide, your patience, care and flexibility is amazing. Without this support we could not provide the services that we do!

And to those of you who may consider a career working with children - please be aware that this is not a job for you if you think it is all about playing with little people all day, there is so much more to it than that!

Thank you for reading, and if you need any help at all in finding childcare or finding a childcare role, then get in touch [email protected] or

If we can help you then we most certainly will!
