Birth & Baby Basics - Support for new and expectant parents in Newcastle and Tyneside

Here at Kids Deserve the Best we do like to work with and support other child and family friendly businesses and today I am delighted to share with you the fabulous work of Janine Rudin who has set up The Birth and Baby Network in  order to link together some of these resources for parents of the North East to access. Janine also offers a variety of support to new and expectant parents across Tyneside through her work with Birth & Baby Basics.

We asked Janine to tell us what she does and this is what I would like to share with you now.

So Janine tell us what do you and Birth & Baby Basics offer?

I provide support and courses for expectant and new parents across Tyneside but not in a patronising ‘you should do this’ way. I provide time to listen, I don’t judge and I don’t think just one way is the right way!

Expectant parents can gain support from Birth & Baby Basics through antenatal classes and workshops – I run Antenatal Courses, Birth Preparation Days and Relax & Breathe sessions at The RVI and in North Tyneside, as well as one-to-one sessions for parents who are unable to attend a longer course.

After spending over five years running antenatal classes, I wanted to be able to continue my support to new parents as well – I trained as a postnatal group leader, a baby massage instructor and as a doula!

This means I provide:

  • two FREE drop-ins a week (Monday mornings at The Play Station in Gosforth and Wednesday mornings at Kiki’s Kabin in North Shields)
  • Confident Mums & Baby Massage courses in Newcastle and in North Shields. These are informal baby massage sessions, which are relaxing for mums and babies, with plenty of chat, tea and cake as well as baby massage. We talk about a range of subjects from adjusting to being a mum and coping with well meaning ‘advice’ to sleep issues, teething, weaning and going back to work.
  • Massage & Mayhem in Newcastle and North Shields for mums with a toddler and a new baby. These sessions are informal, fun and a tad chaotic as mums get to chat and learn to massage their baby, while their toddler plays.
  • One-to-one support in your own home to provide practical help around the house and with your baby

It is important to me to keep my prices low, and fees can be paid in instalments, to provide support for as many parents as I can. Parents also get to contact me after their courses have finished for more information and support when they need it.

I specialise in running small groups, so the sessions are informal and friendly. This gives parents the opportunity to chat and ask all the questions they need to gain information, support and reassurance.

As a mum of three, with over ten years of experience working with expectant and new parents, you can expect a professional and flexible service. For more information about Birth & Baby Basics, you can take a look at my website or get in touch: [email protected] or 0788 5774279

I also run The Birth & Baby Network, which provides information, articles and experienced practitioners for expectant and new parents across Tyneside.
